Duties

F Band: Duties may include the inspection and analysis electronic equipment for troubleshooting and repair of electronic equipment under the supervision of experienced personnel. Physical requirements may include use of basic hand tools and power tools as required for the installation of electronic equipment. On occasion the incumbent may be required to climb antenna towers, poles, or structures in excess of 50 feet above the ground. Receives academic and on-the-job instruction, acquires and applies basic technical knowledge and limited experience to accomplish assignments. Receives instruction in engineering, mechanical, electrical, or electronics fundamentals, Federal Aviation Regulations, and shop practices. Assists other employees during early developmental stages. As employee progresses in training and gains experience, he or she independently completes assignments of limited difficulty. During early developmental stages, contacts are primarily internal to the immediate work unit. As training progresses, contacts are expanded to include representatives of external organizations. In both cases, contacts are made to share information, provide data, and discuss the statuses of assignments. Regularly refers problems and questions to a supervisor, team leader, or more experienced technician. Works with increasing independence as development progresses. Supervisors, team leaders, or more experienced technicians define objectives, resources, and deadlines. Established manuals, procedures, and publications provide detailed guidance for almost all assignments. Supervisors, team leaders, or more experienced technicians furnish instructions for completing detailed assignments. Work is reviewed carefully and frequently while in progress and at completion for quality and timeliness.

G Band: Repairs and calibrates general purpose test equipment to include electronic and physical/dimensional equipment. May provide on-the-job training to developmental technicians. Applies experience and detailed technical knowledge of the applicable discipline as well as applicable procedures and policies. Performs installation, modification, inspection, and repair of equipment used in the National Air Space (NAS). Exercises a complete knowledge of the operation and characteristics of various equipment used in the NAS such as Radar, navigational aids, communications and other NAS equipment at an advanced level. Follows established procedures and suggests changes, which may improve efficiency. Exercises an overall knowledge for test equipment used to repair and/or calibrate equipment in the NAS. Conducts overall performance checks of systems and equipment of higher complexity. Modifies and evaluates various systems and equipment in facilities. Performs other varied assignments with a number of systems and equipment. The technician may be required to solder and desolder components as necessary for the installation of equipment in the NAS. Physical requirements may include use of basic hand tools and power tools as required for the installation of electronic equipment. On occasion the incumbent may be required to climb antenna towers, poles, or structures in excess of 50 feet above the ground.

H Band: Incumbent is a journeyman Electronics Technician performing highly specialized technical work associated with analyzing, designing, developing, installing, repairing, fabricating, maintaining, modifying, or evaluating the most complex systems for which FAA is responsible. Plans, coordinates, and performs work with a high degree of independence keeping the manager informed of significant problem areas. Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of the NAS as an integrated system in order to deal with unusual problems or unanticipated issues. Independently evaluates the functional status of systems and facilities.

Demonstrates sound knowledge of administrative tools and policies related to the accomplishment of work.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the FV-F level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to next lower grade level, FV-E (FG/GS-7/8). Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized Experience for the F Band is applicable field experience with principles and practices involved with inspection and analysis, repairing equipment, communications, knowledge of electrical and/or mechanical support, electronics and installation systems.

To qualify for this position at the FV-G (FG/GS-10-11) level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-F, FG/GS - 9. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized experience for the G band is experienceinstallation, maintenance and modification of electronics equipment. Equipment to include but is not limited to radar systems, navigational aid equipment such as lighted and distance measuring equipment, communication systems such as radio/microwave communications.

To qualify for this position at the FV-H (FG/GS-12) level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-G, FG/GS 10/11 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized experience for the H band is experience ininstallation, inspection, troubleshooting and repair of systems and system components such as computers, navigation and communications equipment, and electronic data communications equipment.

Education
